HCRC Masters members have just returned from the World Rowing Masters Regatta 2014 that was held in Ballarat. They had been training hard over the winter months in preparation. They didn’t return with any gold, but all in all, felt that it was a good experience. Lake Wendouree is not the easiest course to row on. After being ploughed by the wind and pounded by the white caps, one of our members stated: “I feel conditioned for ocean rowing now!”
The Club also took along one of our old eights for display during the Ceremonial Row by 1956 Olympians: The Donoratico.
The Donoratico was the Italian 8 at the 1956 Melbourne Games. It was the most photographed boat at the event, with many on lookers and admirers.
Two of the 1956 Italian athletes were present at the event. Mr Campioto (featured in the image above) and Mr Casuar had an emotional reunion with The Don’. You can read their story here. Thanks Bethany Keats for the words.
HCRC members are now readying themselves for the Rowing Victoria regatta circuit.
